“In Jammu’s old bazaars, the same recipes have been served for generations — perfected once, and lovingly kept ever since.”

The essentials, at once.
01The story
This is not a restaurant crawl; it is a walk through the edible memory of the Dogra people. Beginning at City Chowk, you step into the historic heart of Jammu — bustling bazaars, centuries-old neighbourhoods, and hidden food lanes where every bite carries the traditions of Dogra culture, from iconic street food to time-honoured family recipes.
Walking with a local guide, you taste your way through the flavours that have shaped Jammu’s identity: the region’s beloved Rajma-Chawal prepared with aromatic local rice, the unique flavour of Kalari — the traditional Dogra cheese — the tangy Anardana Chutney, the signature Khatta Meat (for non-vegetarians) and the iconic Patisa, a celebrated sweet synonymous with the Jammu region.
The route threads through a carefully curated selection of Jammu’s iconic heritage eateries, chosen according to the tour timing and the operating hours of each establishment. Depending on the schedule, stops may include Halwa Stall, celebrated for its rich Desi Ghee Halwa; eateries famous for traditional Chole-Bhature, dobba kulcha; and traditional refreshments Banta Soda; spice-laden and tangy Kachalu; and savouring authentic Dogra favourites such as Khatta Meat and Yakhni.
Between tastings, your guide shares the stories behind the counters — Jammu’s culinary traditions, its historic markets, and the families who have guarded these recipes for generations, serving the same dishes from the same corners their grandfathers did. The walk ends not with a checklist completed, but with the taste of a city you now know by heart.

02The living journey
Rajma-Chawal, Kalari, Anardana Chutney, Khatta Meat and Patisa — tasted where they belong, not where they are marketed
The heritage shops of the old city — halwa, chole-bhature, banta soda, kachalu and Dogra dhaba classics, each from a family that has served it for generations
The stories of the historic bazaars and the households who have preserved these recipes, told between bites
An evening inside the living, working old city of Jammu — not a food court version of it

04The community
Every tasting on this walk is a transaction with history. The halwa stall, the heritage shops, the dhaba — each is a family establishment of the old city and every plate you order keeps a generations-old counter in business for the next generation.
