Day 1 / Jammu & Kashmir

Day 1 · Into the Foothills: Jammu to Udhampur

Theme: Arrival and First Tastes of Dogra Land

We meet you at Jammu Airport or Railway Station and head north into the hills towards Udhampur. The drive is part of the welcome: we stop for crisp, piping-hot pakoras at the roadside stalls near Nandni, and again at Tikri for Kalari Kulcha — a soft kulcha filled with melted kalari, the local mountain cheese. By late afternoon you settle into your stay in Udhampur. As the evening cools, your host sits with you over tea and shares stories of the Dogra past, and a little of what the springs will show you tomorrow.

Who This Journey Is For

Heritage lovers · Slow travellers · Spiritual seekers · Architecture and history enthusiasts · Photographers · Food lovers · Families and diaspora guests reconnecting with their Dogra roots. The pace is gentle and works well for senior guests.

Travel That Gives Back

This journey is community-led by design. Your visit supports village hosts, local guides, home cooks, folk artists and the families who care for these springs. The bowlis are living places of worship and daily life, so we keep groups small, follow local customs and leave every spring as we found it.
