If you create an account we also store your age and mobile number so we can personalise your itineraries. We additionally collect basic technical information such as device type, browser and pages visited, which helps us keep the site fast and useful.

2. How we use your information

We use your information to answer enquiries, prepare and confirm bookings, arrange hosts, guides, stays and transport, send you journey updates, and — only if you have opted in — share our newsletter of field notes and new experiences. We also use aggregated, non-identifying statistics to improve the website.

3. Sharing with partners

Delivering a journey means working with local hosts, artisans, homestays, drivers and guides. We share only the minimum needed — usually a first name, group size and any dietary or accessibility requirement. We never sell your data, and we never share it for third-party advertising.

We use essential cookies to keep the site working and simple analytics to understand which stories and journeys people read. You can block or clear cookies in your browser at any time; essential features will still work.

5. Data storage and security

Your information is stored on secured, access-controlled servers. Access is limited to the small Folk Experience team members who need it to serve you. We keep enquiry and booking records for as long as needed to run the trip and meet legal and accounting obligations, and then delete or anonymise them.

6. Your rights

You can ask us at any time for a copy of the information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. You can unsubscribe from our newsletter using the link in any email. Write to hello@folkexperience.com and we will respond within 30 days.

7. Children

Our website is not directed at children under 16. We only hold details of younger travellers when a parent or guardian provides them as part of a family booking.
